Hate speech is rising around the world and incites violence, intolerance. The devastating effect of hatred is sadly nothing new.

However, its scale and impact are now amplified by new technologies. Hate speech — including online — has become one of the most common ways of spreading divisive rhetoric on a global scale, threatening peace around the world.

At A.FOR.A we mobilise artists on this phenomena and we gather strong experts and partners to focus on those whofight daily this social issue.

The number of people in modern slavery has risen significantly in the last five years. Fifty million people were living in modern slavery in 2021, according to the latest Global Estimates of Modern Slavery 10 million more people were in modern slavery in 2021 compared to 2016 global estimates. Women, children and migrants remain disproportionately vulnerable.

At A.FOR.A we work with the Turner Prize-winning artist Anish Kapoor on modern slavery issues, we mobilise movie directors and film industries to highlight the issue. Furthermore, we are continuing the action launched in 2005 by the Thomson Reuters Foundation: the Stop Slavery Award. In partnership with the law Firm, White & Case, the Stop Slavery Award honours corporations that go above and beyond in their efforts to eradicate forced labour, the worst forms of child labour, and other forms of exploitation.

Against all injustices, against all social emergencies, A.FOR.A mobilises the collective of committed artists. When women’s rights are violated, when freedom of expression is threatened, when war endangers children who cross borders alone, when the media are not sufficiently alerted to the emergencies that threaten society.

A.FOR.A conducts emergency operations and brings artists together under the banner “STOP xxx”, which sounds like a rallying cry, a call to action.
